At MBC we’re dedicated to making a positive impact in our communities by helping individuals and families in need. We do this through our commitment to help support charities that make a huge impact in the lives of many throughout our Michigan communities. One of the ways we raise money is with Friday Casual Days. Every month MBC employees have the opportunity to pay monies for the privilege of wearing blue jeans or other casual attire on Fridays.
Our spotlight charity for July is St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has spent more than half a centurey finding cures and saving children and their groundbreaking research has helped push the survival rate for childhood cancer from less than 20% in 1962 to more than 80% today. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital was founded by Danny Thomas who, when unsure of life’s direction sought guidance from St. Jude Thaddeus, the patron saint of hopeless causes. If the saint would point to the path he should take, Danny vowed to build a shrine in his name. Success followed Danny’s plea and soon after, the legendary entertainer set about fulfilling his vow to St. Jude; the result was St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. As one of the world’s biggest celebrities, Danny used his fame to fulfill his vow to St. Jude Thaddeous and to change the lives of thousands of children and families.
Today, St. Jude Children’s Hospital is a world leader in developing new, improved treatments for children with cancer, and they create more clinical trials for cancer than any other children’s hospital.
