At MBC we’re dedicated to making a positive impact in our communities by helping individuals and families in need. We do this through our commitment to help support charities that make a huge impact in the lives of many throughout our Michigan communities. One of the ways we raise money is with Friday Casual Days. Every month MBC employees have the opportunity to pay monies for the privilege of wearing blue jeans or other casual attire on Fridays. Our spotlight charity for July is The Devoted Barn https://www.thedevotedbarn.org/ The Devoted Barn is an animal rescue and rehabilitation facility in Newport, Michigan. They take in animals of all kinds from cruelty, neglect, and large scale hoarding cases. They help animals that are unowned and that need urgent medical attention. They also have a large feral dog program. These animals come to The Devoted Barn to heal both physically and emotionally. They learn to trust and love again, or for the first time, with the help of at-risk youth and special needs adults who come to work at the barn. In addition to helping the animals, our mission to teach compassion & empathy to others through working with our animals. The Devoted Barn sits on 53 acres about 30 miles south of Detroit. Before purchasing the barn in August of 2013 it had been unused for a few years and was in pretty rough shape. There are 30 stalls, one large 10-acre pasture, a large indoor area, and a small paddock. Currently we are home to horses, llamas, sheep, pigs, dogs, bunny and cats. The Devoted Barn is a program of Devoted Friends Animal Society, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the lives of the companion animals we love. Devoted Friends Animal Society received its 501(c)3 non-profit status in 2010. The mission of DFAS is to help companion animals like dogs, cats, and equine find their forever homes. Through rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption, DFAS commits to the animals for their entire lives.
